On December 2, 2024, the Belkaid promotion visited the Alba Synchrotron, a major research facility housing a complex of particle accelerators that produce synchrotron light. This light, characterized by its high intensity, has a wide range of applications across various fields.
While at first glance it might seem that this has nothing to do with the life sciences, the Alba Synchrotron has many applications in this field. For example, it enables a detailed visualization of cells, organelles, and particles, aiding in cellular studies. In addition, its diffraction allows researchers to determine the structure of proteins with remarkable precision.
Seeing different research groups and instruments, as well as the many applications of the synchrotron light, filled us with inspiration, motivation and, most importantly, excitement for research.
