My internship at the International Vaccine Institute (IVI) in Seoul provided me with invaluable insights into the organization’s operations and current projects. I had the privilege of meeting many passionate individuals dedicated to the common goal of discovering, developing and delivering safe, effective and affordable vaccines for global public health. During my internship, I supported an ongoing phase II-III clinical trial and contributed to the development of a vaccine landscape tool.
Living in South Korea allowed me to experience its rich culinary culture, including specialties like kimchi, kimbap, bibimbap, barbecue, fried chicken, bulgogi, pancakes, and bingsu. I discovered and appreciated many new flavours!
On weekends, I enjoyed discovering the diverse facades of Seoul, from hiking spots to trendy pop-ups and from historical palaces to skyscrapers. I also took the opportunity to visit other cities in Korea. In April I witnessed the cherry blossoms in full bloom all over the city, which was a truly breathtaking experience.
Coming from Belgium, I will definitely miss the punctual and well-organised public transport system as well as the convenience stores that are opened 24/7, the general feeling of safety, and the iced coffees available on every street corner. Most of all, I will miss the great colleagues I worked with and the friends I made during this incredible exchange.
